The Winchester Fire Department provides fire prevention education to local K-12 students. Being proactive with fire prevention is just as important as being able to extinguish fires. The Fire Prevention Bureau has multiple programs for fire prevention.  If you have questions regarding fire prevention or programs contact:

Get Alarmed Program, Smoke Alarm Assistance
Get Alarmed is a program through the Indiana State Fire Marshalls Office. Get Alarmed is funded by a federal Fire Protection and Safety Grant. If a family is unable to provide a working smoke alarm in their home the state offers free alarms to them. These alarms are sent to WFD. They will then be installed by WFD personnel.  For more information visit DHS: Get Alarmed (in.gov)

Knox Box
A Knox Box provides rapid non-destructive emergency access to commercial and residential properties.  This secure box can be placed into new construction or onto an existing structure.  Any and all Knox Boxes within the City of Winchester can only be accessed by the Winchester Fire Dept.  This is due to each fire department having their own specialized key.  For more information visit www.knoxbox.com.

Schedule an Inspection
To ensure the WFD is ready in the event of an emergency at your business, a walk through of your property will be performed.  The purpose is to preplan, to find safety issues, and to gather general information.  The WFD will provide a letter stating it has inspected your property and may include safety recommendations.
